Would A Rose By Any Other Name Smell As Sweet?

When I was growing up in the 70's olden days there was a certain order to things. The sun rose in the east, set in the west, and children did not call adults by their first names. Call me old fashioned, but a playmate of my daughter repeatedly referred to me by my first name in conversation today and I was uncomfortable with it. I felt that a first name is reserved for peers. At the same time, I've never instructed my own children to call other moms by salutation and surname. Next time, I think I'll ask the other parent what they prefer to be called. Feel free to let me know what you think.
