At Home Test for Lead in Toys

As a mom of young children with toys all over the house I've been talking to my mom friends about all the toy recalls in the news lately, and we've often said "Wouldn't it be great if we could find out for ourselves if there's lead in these toys?" Well, wouldn't you know it, there is! I came across this website for a company that makes a handy-dandy Portable Handheld Niton XRF analyzer, which, basically, is this thing that looks like an elaborate squirt gun that you can take around your house and point it at all your toys and it will test them for lead. I couldn't see how much this tester costs on their website, but if any of my customers do look into it please let me know. The company is called Thermo Scientific.

How to Find the Perfect Baby Gift

Online shopping makes finding that special baby gift easier. Here are a few tips!

For a special occasion, look for a high quality baby outfit that is not everyday wear. Choose something out of the ordinary, which could be worn in a special photography session and kept as an heirloom to be handed down to future siblings.

The baby blanket is a traditional gift giving staple and is now available in a myriad of stylish fabrics and trims. Parents need several everyday blankets for swaddling their newborn, and fancier styles are ideal for decor or as a security blanket. A stylish high end blanket stands out, and makes a wonderful gift parents might not splurge on when buying for themselves. Everyone gets nostalgic about their own favourite, treasured blankie!

Looking for an everyday item that can also be luxurious and glamorous? A Kaloo sleeping bag fits the bill here. Functional and beautiful, a wearable blanket (sleep sack) keeps baby safe and comfortable while he sleeps. Kaloo sleep sacks are so stylish you'll want to show them off in the stroller as well.

A high-quality classic toy can be a great alternative to the mass produced licensed toys. Look for a timeless, top quality toy, possibly even handmade. Children will use their imaginations as they play, just like when you were a kid, Think of a toy that could be handed down or become a keepsake. Knit dolls, wool or wood toys are nostalgic and modern at the same time.

Following these tips will ensure your thoughtful choice of gift is well received.
