Where To Find The Information You Need
Many parents are looking for recall information in a timely manner. At Blue Blankie we're fortunate that we've never carried any of the items that have been subject to recalls this year. However, for those parents who are looking for further information on the topic, I've compiled some online links:
1. News Sites
News sites like www.cbc.ca and www.ctv.ca carry the latest articles as information is released.
2. Industry Sites
You can find detailed articles about the businesses behind the recalls at industry magazines www.kidstodayonline.com and www.playthings.com
3. Consumer Agencies
Try Consumer Reports website, www.consumerreports.org, for general product safety information. Health Canada has information online regarding Canada-specific recalls at www.hc-sc.gc.ca/cps-spc/advisories-avis/index_e.html. Also on the Health Canada site, check out the product safety bulletins regarding crib safety issues like crib bumper pads. A lot of parents are unaware of the hazards of crib bumpers.
4. Retailer Associations
The Neighborhood Toy Stores of Canada website has an excellent detailed list of recalled toys. It is very helpful to have all the lists in one place so one can check their own home for items that may be on the list. http://www.netscanada.org/parents/recall.php
5. Home Test Manufacturer
If you want to invest in a device to test for lead in products you already own you can find information on handheld niton lead detectors at Thermo Scientific. http://www.niton.com
